Gina Samia, President: Meeting called to order, 6:35pm
Introduction of all PTA officers for the 2012-13 school year
Jessica Boyd, Secretary: Minutes from May 14, 2012 meeting were approved and accepted into record.
Rebecca Fultz, Treasurer:
Reviewed working budget from May 14 meeting was reviewed and minor changed made for new school year. Budget approved
Reviewed expenditures and income to date
Tammy Gilbert, VP of Fundraising: Kick of Butter Bread Pastries began today and will run until October 8th. Delivery of bread will be October 24th. Upcoming events:
Boosterthon Fun Run – kick off Nov 7th. Volunteers are needed to help decorate the school like a highway on October 31st. Teachers need to have their classroom doors decorated by Nov 2nd. The fun run will take place on Nov 15th
On The Border night is Sept 25th
Applebees Pancake breakfast will be October 13th – tickets will go on sale Oct 1st
Brandy Moody, VP of Hospitality: refreshments were provided recently at Kindergarten Meet and Mingle. Donations of baked goods may be needed throughout the school year
Kim Mruk, VP of Programs: Please make sure to link Harris Teeter, Food Lion, and Target Red Card to our school for rewards. This year we will try a new program with mycokerewards.com (see flyer)
Gina Samia introduces all of the committee chairs and each highlight their activities for the year.
Cultural Arts events for the school year are listed on the back of agenda (see attached agenda)
Melanie Connelly, Healthy Lifestyles Committee: Walking Club has been in session for 2 weeks. So far, we have 93 participants. Walk to School Day is October 3rd.
Ginny Boyd, Literacy Committee: School book fair will be held March 18-23, 2013. The fair will be held in media center this year. Family night will be March 19th and the 1st grade class will perform in the gym.
The book exchange will be held the last week of school
Celeste Perretti, Grounds Committee: Grounds clean up day will be held October 27th from 9am – noon. Students and their families are invited to help clean up the school grounds.
Several items are needed for a fall display. Please donate mums, pumpkins, and other items by Friday, Sept 28th. Items can be left by the bird bath in front of the school.
Stefanie Saba, Family Fun Committee: Movie Night will be held on October 26th on the field behind the school. The movie will start around 7 pm. There will be a food vendor and small concessions for sale.
The RES family dance will be held on Feb 8th
The Cougar Carnival will be held on April 27th
Helen Wilson, Reflections Committee: This year’s theme is “The Magic of a Moment” deadline for student artwork is Nov 9th. Students can attend workshops on Tues mornings in October to work on their projects and use art supplies. All participants will be recognized at the Nov 19th PTA meeting.
Bow Time After School Program: A music program will be offered to students on Monday afternoons from 4:00-5:30 pm. Students can learn to play the violin, viola, or cello. The program is open to 2nd – 5th graders. We need at least 8 students for the program to be established. The program cost is $85 a month plus equipment rental
Shejuanna Rodgers, Principal’s Report: This year we have 662 students enrolled in school. We have 43% free and reduced lunch students.
We are a school-wide Title 1 school this year. This means that all teachers and assistants must be highly qualified, parents have the right to request credentials of all staff, school must have annual measurable objectives, and students are provided with short term and long term assistance with math and language arts.
